Let's Write a Story


I totally meant to write something this week. And life kind of got in the way. That's kind of how my writing's been going lately, too.

So, let's jump start our writing. You know the game. I start us off with a sentence. In the comments, you continue the story. You may write as much or as little as you like, just so long as you continue the story where it left off with the last commenter.

The doorway shimmered in the fading light until it almost disappeared...

I'm happy to say my creative juices are on fire with short story rewrites, so I'll decline to add but this is great! I hope real life calms down and your writing life goes into hyperdrive.

The hooded figure stirred. With every movement and gesture it pushed back the light. Rising, the figure pushed back the hood revealing...

A man. No, nothing like a man she's ever seen. It's eyes, nose, mouth and ears were human. His muscles bunched under its robe when it removed its hood. With its musculature, straight nose, wide full lips, piercing mauve eyes and broad shoulders, it was man-like alight. More handsome than any man ever seen even with its beautiful blue-green skin, like the ocean. Maybe a god? Maybe a god of the sea, she thought.
"Yeah right," she snorted. "I'm dreaming."
But she wasn't dreaming, because she knew that she didn't have the imagination to conjure that voice. A deep, haunting and sultry melody gave her goosebumps, when he said, "I finally found you."

Slowly, he raised his hand and pointed to the wall behind her. "There, right there is the item which initiated my quest" he bellowed in a voice that seemed to echo despite the confined dimensions of the room.

He glided past her and gingerly removed a book from the shelf. He showed her the limited edition copy of Strangers Have the Best Candy that he had just reclaimed and as turning away stated "Our records show this was due back over three months ago. You will need to come with me."
