Keep Going

How often have you told someone you're a writer to have them respond with something along the lines of I-wish-I-could-do-that?

I hear it a lot. So many people want to write a book, but they don't. They don't know how to start. They don't have the time. They don't think they can write.

What's the difference between those who wish they could and those that do? Those that do started and they had the perseverance to keep at it until they finished.

It doesn't matter how you do it. We all do it differently, after all. It doesn't matter when you do it. All that matters is that you try.

Have a good weekend.

So true! And sometimes persevering simply means starting again.

And again.

And maybe again.

Very true. I had one co-worker tell me she wished she could sit down and write a novel but she just didn't have the patience to write it to the end. And that she admired me for it. It was a little humbling and encouraging at the same time.

Yep. What is that saying? Fall down eight times, get up nine.

It takes courage or something to get started. And to keep going.

it isn't easy writing a book. And I don't know if it gets any easier after the first or second or third. But no matter what there is nothing else I would rather be doing

I always say the first novel is the hardest. Of course, it's not. It's like the first kid. Your world is upside down until you figure out how it works, only to meet kid #2 two and realize you're in for a whole different ball of wax. I suppose that's how you know you're still growing, eh?

I think that natural selection to keep the number of writers in certain limits :) - if everybody tried we would all be writers :)
