Critique My (Our) Blog Blogfest

Oops, I was a day early.
As mentioned yesterday, Teralyn is hosting a blogfest where bloggers ask for help to improve their blogs. Click on her name to find Mr. Linky and the other blogs.

We are always striving to improve ourselves, our writing, and our blog here at Unicorn Bell. So, we signed up. This is your chance to help us out by answering the following questions in the comments section:

  • Appearance: Does it appeal to you? Is it too busy, or too plain?
  • Layout: Is it difficult to navigate? Is it cluttered, or sparse?
  • Frequency: Does the blogger post too often? Not often enough?
  • Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?
  • Quality: Are the individual posts too long, too short, too sloppy, or too generic?
Feel free to leave any other comments that you think will help us improve our blog and help us serve you better.

Tomorrow we will announce the winner of our January Commenter's Award and the copy of Substitute Me.

Cool! I signed up also for my personal blog.

Thanks for the idea, Charity

SO I confess I had to leave a comment because I LOVE your blog name and the premise of an unselfish wish made on a unicorn horn. Bravo for your desire to help the writing community!

HELLO! I love the concept of your blog, but I wonder if the purpose could be more clearly stated after the "Unselfish wish ..." or even stated on the sidebar?? Your blog colors are easy on the eyes, and I love the writing tip box on the sidebar. :)

Thanks Margo! We'll see if we can summarize the "Submission" Tab into one line to add to the header. I think that's where we explained everything. *goes to check*...

Cool header. I like the writing tip of the day widget. I would like to see a bio/about in the right hand column.

For me, the dark grey background isn't the easiest colour for my eyes, particularly when next to the blue. Perhaps it could be lightened a little?

I like how this blog is organised, and I love its stated purpose! Plus, unicorns are perty! I'm no expert on how to arrange the contents of one's sidebar, but I did get some advice on my own blog about lifting the followers, and some other stuff. I don't really have much to say beyond what I've said, though. :)

I love the color palette of your blog, it has a calming effect!

I think joint blogs are such a great idea. You can get some real synergy going. Some people like the colour, others not so much. *laughs* it's hard to get consensus, isn't it. I would prefer something a little brighter than the grey.

There's a good layout, and the content and rationale of the blog is great.

Very nice.

I love the idea of this blog. I think maybe an initial introduction to the aim and method of your group at the top would be useful. I like the simple layout. Could you possibly have a single tab for information about yourselves and instead a tab where you could browse though your writing help? Maybe also directing the reader to the current submission for review?

These are only small thoughts. The page works and the idea is wonderful. you can look forward to further comments from me.

The text above the posts has always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. I would suggest moving it to the top of the sidebar like Rena suggested. I also like Kate's idea to have a tab or the help and recent submissions.
